How Do I Claim My GEPF Funds?

Claiming your Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) benefits is a vital step for many who have dedicated years to public service. Therefore, The GEPF offers a user-friendly self-service portal where you can easily claim their funds. The funds can also be claimed on the mobile App and the official website of GEPF.

This article aims to provide you with detailed information on the required documentations and how to submit your claim process either on the official website, Mobile App or on the Set-Service portal developed by GEPF.

Required Documents To Claim GEPF Funds

The following documents are required to claim your GEPF Funds;

  • Identification Documents:

You need a bar-coded ID or, if you have a card ID, certified photocopies of both sides. If you are not a South African citizen, submit a certified copy of your valid passport. Make sure the details on your ID match your claim.

  • Marriage Documentation:

Provide a marriage certificate (legal, traditional, or religious), lobola letters, or a life partner application if not previously submitted. If you are divorced, include your divorce decree and settlement order.

  • Children’s Birth Certificates:

Submit the unabridged birth certificates for your children that show both parents’ names or the adoption order if applicable.

  • Bank Details:

Fill out a bank form in your name, as benefits cannot be paid to anyone else’s account. If the beneficiary is a minor, provide the guardian’s bank details, proof of guardianship, and a certified copy of the guardian’s ID. A recent bank statement is recommended to confirm the account is active.

  • Tax Number:

It is a good idea to include proof of your active tax number. Write your pension number on all documents to avoid mix-ups.

  • Medical Benefits:

If you want to continue medical benefits, complete the required application form and provide proof of medical aid membership for the 12 months before applying.

  • Retirement Requirements:

If you are retiring, attach a personal particulars form listing your dependents. Complete a retirement benefit choice form and request a quote for an enhanced spouse benefit if desired. Return the signed choice form to your HR before leaving to avoid delays.

  • Resignation Procedures:

If you are resigning, fill out a choice form to transfer your benefits or receive them in your bank account. It is best to consult a financial advisor for guidance.
