SU Online Application Status 2027-2028

SU Online Application Status 2027-2028

SU Online Application Status 2027-2028

SU Online Application Status 2027-2028: Check & Track Guide:

If you applied to Stellenbosch University for 2027, your next step is to do an SU status check so you know if you are provisionally selected, waitlisted, or need to accept an offer. Based on SU’s 2026 cycle, the two biggest mistakes applicants make are not checking the SU Applicant Portal login regularly and missing the deadline to accept a provisional offer.

Many panic when they see Under consideration by faculty because they think it means something is wrong. It is not. It means the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, or your chosen faculty, is ranking you against other applicants.

This guide gives you the direct steps to track your SU application using My.SUN, plus what each Stellenbosch University admission status means and what to do next. It will cover Stellenbosch online application 2027 dates, NBT requirements, residence status, and how the BDatSci application works.

For 2027 intake: Online application for undergraduate studies at Stellenbosch University opens on 18 April 2026 and closes on 31 July 2026. If you miss these important dates, nothing more can be done. Requests by email, if you do not meet the minimum requirements for admission, will not be answered. The minimum requirements are strictly applied to admissions.

SU Online Application Application Dates 2027-2028

For 2027 intake: Online application for undergraduate studies at Stellenbosch University opens on 18 April 2026 and closes on 31 July 2026. If you miss these important dates, nothing more can be done. Emails with respect to this will not be answered.

Critical SU timeline for 2027:

  • 18 April 2026: SU portal opens for all undergrad applications
  • April to June 2026: Book and write the NBT. Most SU faculties require it
  • 31 July 2026: Final closing date for all programmes AND residence. No late applications
  • End of August 2026: Provisional offers should be on My.SUN. If you don’t see one by 31 August, contact the Registrar
  • August to October 2026: “Under consideration by faculty” for BDatSci, Law, Medicine, Engineering
  • January 2027: “Admitted” status updated after NSC release. Registration starts

How long does SU Take To Respond To Applications 2027?

  • SU only starts making provisional offers in late August. Competitive degrees only finalise in October. Final admission is January 2027.
  • You will not get an answer in April, even if you apply on day one.

Documents Needed For SU Online Application 2027-2028

If My.SUN says “Outstanding Documents”, your application stops. Upload these as certified PDFs:

  • SA applicants: ID, Final Grade 11 report, June Grade 12 when available, NBT results
  • International applicants: Passport, SAQA certificate, final school results, English proof
  • All BDatSci applicants: Grade 11 Maths 80%+ and either IT or Physical Science. No IT subject? You need 80% Maths.

BDatSci 2027: The Special Rules

  • SU runs BDatSci differently from other degrees. Here’s the exact process for the 2027 intake.

SU Online Application Process 2027-2028 (BDatSci
)

This is for students who are not registered for a degree in 2026 and who are in Grade 12 in 2026:

1. You only need to apply for BDatSci under the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS). This is the safest option. It keeps all 8 focal areas open.

2. In 2027, after your Grade 12 results are known, you will have an opportunity to select the focal area of your choice after attending the compulsory information session about focal areas. You only need to choose the focal area the week before lectures start in 2027.

3. You may apply for a specific focal area from 3 of the total of 8 focal areas, namely that of Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Statistical Physics, under the Faculty of Science portal. However, we have seen that students are not really certain, and we strongly recommend applying for BDatSci “General” under the Faculty of EMS.

4. If you are uncertain about focal areas and to play it safe, keeping all options open, go to the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences portal for applications and select BDatSci as the degree programme. This will be the bottom option under all BCom degrees in the drop-down box.

5. This means that if you wish to register for the focal area Geoinformatics under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or the focal area Statistical Genetics in the Faculty of AgriSciences or even for the 3 focal areas under the Faculty of Science, you apply just for BDatSci in the Faculty of EMS.

6. Your second and third choices can be any of the other degrees in the Faculty of EMS or any other faculty, like Science or Engineering. Rather, select other BCom, BSc or BEng degree programmes if you do not meet the minimum Grade 11 requirements.

7. You can always change back to BDatSci in 2027 after Grade 12 results are known and you have met the minimum requirements. In fact, if you meet the minimum requirements for BDatSci after Grade 12, you can change your actual study degree to BDatSci regardless of whether you have already been accepted for another degree.

8. After the application process has closed, students who meet the minimum admission requirements (based on their Grade 11 marks) will receive a letter to indicate that they have been provisionally accepted for the BDatSci degree, provided their Grade 12 results meet the minimum admission requirements. You need to accept the offer before a certain due date; if not, your offer will be withdrawn.

SU Online Application Status Check Steps 2027-2028

You must use the SU Applicant Portal at my.sun.ac.za. This is also called My.SUN login. SU does not update statuses by email only:

Step 1: Activate your My.SUN account
:

  • After you apply, SU emails you a username and initial password. This can take 1-2 working days.

Step 2: Log in to check your application:

  • Go to my.sun.ac.za
  • Enter your Username and Password. Your username is usually your student number.
  • Click Login.
  • On the dashboard, click “Admissions” then “Application Status”.
  • Your current status for academic and residence will show.

Important: Check the portal weekly. In my experience, SU sends very few status emails. Acceptance letters should be received by the end of August. If not, please enquire only after 31 August 2026 from the Registrar of SU.

Documents Needed To Check SU Status: Checklist

  • Username: The student number SU emailed you after applying
  • Password: Set this up when you first activate My.SUN
  • ID or Passport Number: Needed if you must reset your My.SUN password
  • Access to your email: To receive the initial My.SUN activation link and NBT info

Based on SU’s 2026 cycle, the #1 reason students can not do an SU status check is that they never activated My.SUN or they forgot the password. Do this within 48 hours of getting SU’s email.

SU Online Application Status Meanings Explained

Once you log in to the SU Applicant Portal, you will see one of these codes. Below is what each means and what to do next:

Application Received:

SU has your form and documents.

  • Meaning: You are in the system. No decision yet.
  • Next Action: Wait. Make sure your documents and NBT do not show as Outstanding.

Outstanding Documents:

SU is missing something like certified ID, Grade 11 results, or NBT.

  • Meaning: Your application is on hold and will not be reviewed.
  •
Next Action: Upload the missing certified PDF in My.SUN immediately. Certification must be under 3 months old.

Application in process:

Your application passed admin checks and is ready for faculty review.

  •
Meaning: You meet basic requirements. Now the faculty ranks you.
  • Next Action: Wait. This status can last 6-10 weeks.

Under consideration by faculty:

The faculty is actively ranking you against other applicants.

  • Meaning: This is normal for all programmes, especially Medicine, Engineering, Law, and BDatSci.
  • Next Action: Wait. Check weekly. Make sure your NBT is written if required.

Provisionally selected:

You meet Grade 11 requirements and have a conditional offer.

  • Meaning: You have a spot if your Grade 12 results meet the minimum.
  • Next Action: Accept the offer before the due date in My.SUN. If not, your offer will be withdrawn.

Admitted:

You are fully accepted based on your final Grade 12 results.

  • Meaning: Your academic spot is secure.
  • Next Action: Download your admission letter. Follow registration steps for January 2027. Check residence status separately.

Waitlisted:

You meet the requirements, but the programme or residence is full.

  • Meaning: You are on standby.
  • Next Action: Accept any other offers you have. SU makes second-round offers in January if spaces open.

Unsuccessful:

You do not meet the faculty’s minimum requirements.

  • Meaning: Your application was not successful.
  • Next Action: Requests by email, if you do not meet the minimum requirements for admission, will not be answered. Check other programmes before the closing dates.

What to Do After Each SU Online Application Status

If your status is Under consideration by faculty:

  • This is the most common status at SU. Don’t email the faculty.
  • It means you meet the APS and subject minimums, but selection is competitive.
  • Write the NBT if your programme requires it. SU will not make a final decision without it.
  • SU updates are under consideration by faculty in batches from August to October.

If your status is Provisionally selected:

  • You need to accept the offer before a certain due date. If not, your offer will be withdrawn.
  • This is the most critical SU step. Based on SU’s 2026 cycle, hundreds of offers are withdrawn yearly because students don’t accept in time.
  • Log in to My.SUN, click “Offer”, and accept.
  • Pay the registration deposit when SU requests it.

If your status is Unsuccessful:

  • The minimum requirements are strictly applied to admissions.
  • You can apply for a second or third choice if the closing date has not passed.
  • Rather, select other BCom, BSc or BEng degree programmes if you do not meet the minimum Grade 11 requirements for your first choice.
  • You can always change back to your preferred degree in 2027 after Grade 12 results are known and you have met the minimum requirements.

Troubleshooting SU Applicant Portal

Problem 1: I didn’t get my My.SUN login details.

  • Fix: Check spam for an email from “sun.ac.za”. If nothing after 3 days, email info@sun.ac.za with your ID number and full name.

Problem 2: Why is my SU status under consideration by faculty?

  •
Fix: This means you meet minimums and are being ranked. It is not an error. For BDatSci, Medicine, and Law, this status can last until October. Do not email the faculty to ask for updates.

Problem 3: How do I check Stellenbosch residence status?

  • Fix: Log in to My.SUN. Click “Admissions” then “Residence Application Status”. It is separate from academic status. You can be “Provisionally selected” academically, but “Waitlisted” for residence. Apply for residence before 31 July 2026.

Problem 4: My.SUN says Invalid Username or Password.

  • Fix: Use the “Forgot Password” link on my.sun.ac.za. If you have never been activated, you must use the first email from SU.

Problem 5: I missed the 31 July closing date.

  •
Fix: If you miss these important dates, nothing more can be done. Emails with respect to this will not be answered. You must wait for the next cycle

FAQs: SU Application Status 2027-2028

1. How long does SU take to respond to applications for 2027?

  •
First provisional offers appear at the end of August 2026. “Under consideration by faculty” runs to October for the selection of degrees. Final “Admitted” status only shows in January 2027 after matric results.

2. Why is my SU status under consideration by faculty?

  •
It means you passed the minimum APS and NBT check. Now, lecturers are ranking you against thousands of others. Based on SU’s 2026 selection cycle, this stage is the longest. Don’t email the department.

3. Can I appeal the SU rejection?

  • Requests by email, if you do not meet the minimum requirements for admission, will not be answered. SU has no formal undergrad appeal. If there was an admin error, email info@sun.ac.za with proof within 5 days of the outcome.

4. What does Provisionally selected mean at SU?

  •
You got in on Grade 11 results + NBT. You must keep your marks up in matric and accept the offer in My.SUN before it expires. If not, your offer will be withdrawn.

5. How do I check Stellenbosch residence status?

  • Use My.SUN. Go to Admissions > Residence Application Status. Apply for res before 31 July 2026. Academic acceptance doesn’t guarantee a room.

6. Will SU email me my offer?

  • Do not count on it. SU posts to My.SUN first. Based on SU’s 2026 cycle, many students lost offers because the email went to spam or was never sent. Check the portal weekly.

7. Can I switch to BDatSci if I’m accepted for BCom?

  •
Yes. If you meet the minimum requirements for BDatSci after Grade 12, you can change your actual study degree to BDatSci regardless of whether you have already been accepted for another degree. Do this in January 2027 during registration.

Remember the hard deadlines: applications open 18 April 2026 and close 31 July 2026. Miss them, and SU will not help you. For BDatSci, apply under EMS to keep all focal areas open. Write your NBT early.

The students who get into SU are not always the ones with the highest marks. They are the ones who check My.SUN every week, accept offers before they expire, and understand that “Under consideration” is not a rejection. Log in, stay on top of it, and secure your spot.
