How To Check Your Retirement Balance
The GEPF now offers a self-service portal where members can quickly access their latest benefit statements using their ID number and password. The portal and app have been improved for better performance and stronger security to protect your personal information from online threats. Here’s how to check your pension fund:
- Visit the GEPF self-service portal at https://selfservice.gepf.gov.za/#/login.
- Log in with your ID number and password.
- If you have forgotten your password, click on “Forgot Password” and enter your details to register.
- You will receive a link to reset your password and access your personal GEPF page.
- Once logged in, you can view your benefit statement and complete any other tasks.

Types Of Retirement Benefits At GEPF
The GEPF offers options for normal and early retirement, as well as retirement due to medical (ill health) reasons. Members whose jobs have been impacted by restructuring or reorganization are also eligible to receive retirement benefits. Below are some types of retirement plans offered by GEPF;
- Early Retirement:
In some cases, you can retire before turning 60. The benefits you receive will still depend on how long you have worked. If you have worked 10 years or more, you will get a lump sum and a monthly pension, just like normal retirement, but the amount will be slightly reduced (by 0.33% for each month) for retiring early.
- Normal Retirement:
For GEPF members, the standard retirement age is 60. The benefits you get depend on how long you’ve worked and contributed to the fund. If you have worked less than 10 years, you will receive a one-time cash payout based on the value of your contributions. However, If you have worked 10 years or more, you will get both a lump sum payout and a monthly pension.
- Ill Health and Other Retirements:
If you retire due to health issues, injury at work, or if your position is eliminated, you get enhanced benefits. If you have worked for more than 10 years, you will receive both a lump sum and a monthly pension, plus an extra yearly payment. Also, If you have worked less than 10 years, your benefits will be similar to what you would get if you resigned.
