How Do You Know If You Are Eligible For The Pension Grant
You must;
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or a fugitive
- Be settled in South Africa
- Must not receive any other social grant for yourself
- Must not be cared for in a state institution
- Must not earn more than R86 280 if you are single or R172 560 if married
- Must not have assets worth more than 1 227 600 if you are single or R2 455 200 if you are married
Requirements Needed To Enroll/Register For A Pension Grant
To be able to qualify for a pension grant this is what is required of the applicant
- Age of the applicant
- The employment history of the applicant
- Proof of contribution of the applicant
- Financial information(that is the means test)
- Identification document
- Bank account details of the applicant
- Medical certificate of the applicant(for disability pension)
- Application form
- Any other requirement
When May The Pension Grant Be Reviewed
SASSA can decide if your grant must be reviewed. Your earnings as declared when you apply for the grant will form the basis of this decision. You will be notified three(3) months in advance of the date when the review will take place or the date on which the life certificate(proof that you are still alive)is due.
What If Your Application Is Rejected
- If your application is rejected, SASSA will inform you in writing why your application was unsuccessful
- If you disagree with the decision, you can petition to the Minister of Social Development at the National Department of Social Development. You must petition within 90 days of being notified that your application was unsuccessful
