GEPF is a benefit fund that government employees in South Africa receive after retirement from office. The pension scheme was established in 1996 and it is the largest pension fund in Africa and the World. Members of the pension fund benefit from death benefits, retirement benefits, and disability benefits.

The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) sends benefits statements to its members to ensure that they are updated on the status of their pension funds. Members of GEPF receive their Statement through emails or post office once a year and it can also be issued on request. The Estimation of Benefits statement reflects the summary of estimated pension benefits earned at a certain date during employment. The Statement contains information such as employee personal details, pension benefits and employment details.

How GEPF Funds Are Invested

The GEPF Fund has agreed on an investment mandate with the Public Investment Corporation ( PIC ), which is a state manager responsible for investing assets on behalf of the GEPF. The Fund is aimed at the long-term by using active and passive investment skills and following a core-satellite approach when issuing investment mandates. The core portfolios are managed by PIC while the satellite portfolios can be managed by specialist managers in their respective sectors.
