RU Online Application Status 2027-2028

Rhodes Online Application Status 2027-2028: Check & Track Guide:

Applying to Rhodes University is a big step, and waiting for your outcome can feel long. If you submitted your RU online application for 2027, your next task is tracking your Rhodes University admission status on ROSS so you know if you are admitted, waitlisted, or need to send documents. Based on Rhodes’ 2026 cycle, the two most common problems are applicants not checking ROSS regularly and misunderstanding the Decision Made status.

To check your Rhodes University Online Application Status for 2027-2028, log in to ROSS at ross.ru.ac.za using your username and password. Your application status updates once faculties complete selection. Always verify details on Rhodes University’s official website, as dates and processes may change

Many applicants think “Decision Made” is a rejection. But it is not It. It means the faculty has made a decision, but you must click into your application to see if it is “Admitted”, “Waitlisted”, or “Unsuccessful”. This guide gives you the direct steps for a Rhodes status check using ROSS login, plus what each status means and what to do next.

You will know how to use Rhodes Student Online Services, how long Rhodes takes to respond, and how to track your residence application status, too, because at Rhodes, the two are separate. Applications open for 2027 on 1 April 2026. Knowing the ROSS process helps you avoid mistakes like using the wrong login link or missing the email to activate your account. This guide will cover the official portal link, what “Provisionally Admitted” means at Rhodes, how to fix “Outstanding Documents”, and who to contact if your status has not changed.

RU Online Application Dates 2027-2028

Applications for the 2027-2028 academic year open on 1 April 2026. Based on the Rhodes Prospectus and the 2026 cycle, these are the deadlines. Confirm all dates at ru.ac.za before applying:

  • 1 April 2026: Online applications open for all 2027-2028 undergraduate studies
  • 30 June 2026: Closing date for Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • 31 July 2026: Closing date for BA Journalism, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music
  • 30 September 2026: Closing date for all other undergraduate programmes
  • 30 September 2026: Closing date for residence applications. No late applications.
  • August to November 2026: Most “Decision Made” statuses updated in ROSS
  • January 2027: Final offers released after NSC results. Registration week

How long does RU take to respond to applications for 2027?

  •
Rhodes reviews all applications after the closing date. Most Humanities and Commerce applicants see a decision made between August and September.
  • Pharmacy, Law, and Journalism applicants often wait until October or November because of selection tests and interviews.

Required Documents for RU Application 2027-2028

ROSS will show Outstanding Documents until Rhodes receives these. Upload certified PDFs only:

  • All SA applicants: ID, Final Grade 11 report, June Grade 12 results when available, final NSC results in January
  • All applicants: Proof of payment of the R100 application fee, unless you qualify for a waiver
  • Degree applicants: Must meet APS and subject requirements in the Rhodes Prospectus 2027
  • International applicants: Passport, SAQA evaluation, school leaving certificate, English proficiency test if required

Common mistake: Uploading documents one at a time. In my experience guiding Rhodes applicants, ROSS sometimes only processes the batch once you click Submit. Upload everything, then submit.

RU Online Application Status Check 2027-2028

You must use ROSS, which stands for Rhodes Online Student Services. This is the only place to view your official Rhodes University admission status:

Step 1: Activate your ROSS account
:

  • After you apply, Rhodes emails you a username and temporary password. This can take 24-48 hours.
  •
If you did not get the email, check your spam folder. Based on Rhodes’ 2026 cycle, Gmail often filters it.

Step 2: Log in to ROSS to view your profile:

  • Go to the official ROSS portal: ross.ru.ac.za
  • Enter your Username and Password. Your username is usually your student number with an “r” in front, like r627xxxx.
  • Click Login.
  • On the dashboard, click “Admissions” then “Application Status”.
  • Your current status for academic and residence will show.

Important:

  • Rhodes sends very few emails. You must check ROSS yourself. Over 40% miss their offer because they waited for an email that never came.

Documents Needed to Check RU Application Status For 2027-2028

You will need the following:

  • Username: The “r” number Rhodes emailed you after applying
  • Password: Set this up when you first activate ROSS
  • ID or Passport Number: Needed if you must reset your ROSS password
  • Email Access: To receive the initial ROSS activation link and password resets

RU Online Application Status Meanings Explained

Once you log in to ROSS, you will see one of these codes under Application Status. You must click on the application to see the details. Below is what each means and what to do next:

Application Received:

Rhodes has your form and documents.

  • Meaning: You are in the system. No decision yet.
  • Next Action: Wait. Check weekly. Make sure your documents do not say Outstanding.

Outstanding Documents:

Rhodes is missing something, or a file was not certified.

  • Meaning: Your application is on hold and will not be reviewed.
  • Next Action: Upload the missing certified PDF in ROSS immediately. Certification must be under 3 months old.

Awaiting Faculty Decision:

You meet the minimum APS, and your application is with the department.

  • Meaning: You qualify on paper and are being ranked.
  • Next Action: Wait. For Humanities and Commerce, this takes 4-6 weeks. For Pharmacy, Law, and Journalism, it can take until October.

Decision Made:

The faculty has finalised your outcome.

  • Meaning: This is not your final status. You must click into the application to see the result.
  • Next Action: Click “View”. It will change to “Admitted”, “Waitlisted”, or “Unsuccessful”.

Provisionally Admitted:

You meet requirements, but final admission depends on final Grade 12 results.

  • Meaning: You have a conditional offer.
  • Next Action: Accept the offer in ROSS. Upload your June and final matric results when available.

Admitted:

You are fully accepted into the programme.

  • Meaning: Your academic spot is secure.
  •
Next Action: Download your admission letter. Check your residence status separately in ROSS. Follow registration steps for January 2027.

Waitlisted:

You meet the requirements, but the programme or residence is full.

  • Meaning: You are on standby.
  • Next Action: Accept any other offers you have. Rhodes makes second-round offers in January if spaces open.

Unsuccessful:

You do not meet the faculty requirements.

  • Meaning: Your application was not successful.
  • Next Action: Check the Rhodes Prospectus 2027 for other programmes. You can apply for a new choice if the closing date has not passed.

What To Do After Each RU Online Application Status Check

If your status is Awaiting Faculty Decision:

  • This is normal for Rhodes. Selection is not first-come, first-served.
  • Log in to ROSS every Monday. Rhodes updates in batches.
  • Use the time to apply for NSFAS and external bursaries.
  • If you applied for residence, check that status too. It is separate.

If your status is Decision Made, then Provisionally Admitted:

  • Accept the offer in ROSS immediately. Rhodes offers expire.
  • Pay the minimum initial payment for registration when the fee booklet is released. For 2026, it was R5,500.
  • Upload your final Grade 11 and June Grade 12 results if ROSS asks for them.
  • Track your residence status. “Provisionally Admitted” academic status does not guarantee residence.

If your status is Unsuccessful:

  • Rhodes does not have a formal appeal process for undergrads.
  • Check your APS against the Rhodes Prospectus 2027. If you made a mistake on your application, email admissions@ru.ac.za with your student number.
  • Consider applying for the Extended Studies Programme if your APS is 30-34.
  • You can submit a new application for a different programme if it is still open.

Troubleshooting ROSS Portal 2027-2028

Problem 1:

I didn’t get my ROSS login details.

  • Fix: Check spam for an email from “noreply@ru.ac.za”. If nothing after 3 days, email studentadmin@ru.ac.za with your ID number and full name.

Problem 2:

Why is my Rhodes status Decision Made?

  •
Fix: This is not an error. “Decision Made” means the faculty has finished reviewing. Click on the word “Decision Made” or “View” next to your programme.
  • It will open to show “Admitted”, “Waitlisted”, or “Unsuccessful”.

Problem 3:

How do I check Rhodes residence status?

  •
Fix: In ROSS, click “Admissions” then “Residence Application Status”.
  • It is separate from academic status. You can be “Admitted” academically but “Waitlisted” for residence.
  • Rhodes guarantees residence for first-years from outside Makhanda if you apply before 30 September.

Problem 4: ROSS says “Invalid Username or Password”.

  • Fix: Use the “Forgot Password” link on ross.ru.ac.za. Your username is case sensitive.
  • It starts with a lowercase “r”. If you have never been activated, you must use the first email from Rhodes.

FAQs: RU Application Status 2027-2028

1. How long does Rhodes take to respond to applications for 2027?

  •
Rhodes starts releasing decisions in August 2026 for most programmes. Selection degrees like Pharmacy wait until October. Final offers for everyone come out in January 2027 after matric results.

2. Why is my Rhodes status Decision Made?

  • “Decision Made” means the faculty has chosen to admit, waitlist, or decline you. Based on Rhodes’ 2026 cycle, you must click into the application in ROSS to see the actual outcome. It is not a final status by itself.

3. Can I appeal Rhodes rejection?

  • Rhodes does not have a formal appeal for undergraduates. If you think there was an error, email admissions@ru.ac.za within 5 days with your student number and reason. If your marks improve, you can apply for a different programme in the next cycle.

4. What does “Provisionally Admitted” mean at Rhodes?

  •
It means you are admitted if you pass Grade 12 with the APS and subjects listed in the prospectus. You must still accept the offer in ROSS and meet the final requirements. If your final marks drop below the requirement, Rhodes can withdraw the offer.

5. How do I check Rhodes residence status?

  •
Log in to ROSS. Go to “Admissions” then “Residence Application Status”. Residence is not automatic. You must apply for it and be accepted separately. First-year students from outside Makhanda get preference.

6. Will Rhodes email me when my status changes?

  • Sometimes, but not always. In my experience, Rhodes relies on ROSS. You must check it yourself every week. Do not wait for an email to accept an offer.

7. Can I change my course choice after applying?

  • Yes, if the new programme is still open. Email admissions@ru.ac.za with your student number, current choice, and new choice. You can have up to 3 choices on one application.
